Hi all,

is there any revolver out there that has a super duper high gloss finish like the SW Python in Royal Blue classic? Don't have the cash for the real deal but maybe there is something new and similar out there, or anybody know an outfit that can put that kind of finish on a revolver?

BTW S&W didn't make the Python... Colt's did. ;)

The shine isn't the blueing salts used. The shine is the level of polish prior to the blue....You can buy most any well worn revolver and have a good refinisher like Ford's put on a mirror finish blue job.

I don't know. I have never seen an SW Python before but I have seen and have 2 Colt Pythons. Seriously though the deep Royal Blue is from the high amount of polishing the gun gets before it is blued. The closest I have seen to the Colt Python Royal Blue on a competitors gun was a S&W model 27 I saw many years ago. I have only seen one model 27 with this degree of finish. Others have come close but no one has duplicated it 100%.

The S&W's from the late 1960's were probably close. I have two Model 27's, and the 1969 version has much better bluing than the 1978 version. But, neither comes close to my 1978 Python, or the 1973 Python I just got back from Colt. The metal finish under the bluing is second to none, and that Royal Blue looks to be a mile deep. The photo doesn't do this one justice.

I have a National Match (1911) with the same ridiculous blueing... thanks for the education, I didn't realize it was polishing BEFORE the bluing that mattered most.

live and learn... blueing is not like a glossy paint job, i didn't know either.

Yes, indeed. From their customer testimonial page:

If I am not mistaken the most experienced polisher at Colt was the one assigned to do the Pythons, hence the beautiful polishing and finish.

Just my .02,
