Reading Wilbur Smith's "The Eye of the Tiger." One of the bad guys has a "naval" .45 automatic that when he shoots it, his "exploding" bullets reduce 2 seagulls to near vapor.
BUT....then on p 58, he shoots at our hero who ponders,
"I thought about the heavy soft explosive lead slug that the .45 threw, about how it would tear up the target, hitting with the shock of two thousand foot pounds."
...........atsa my kinda gun. Where can I get one?

Widely available in any gun rag. Wonder how this pistol did on imaginary goats?

Hmmm, I thought the reason Darth Vader is one handed is because he shot a .45 and the recoil was so powerful, it ripped out his hand!

Oh, oh, oh.... I thought when you said "naval", you meant as in "navel orange", but you meant "naval" as in swabbie. In that case, since 5" guns are 38's or 54's, a "naval" .45 might be an 8" or even a 12" gun, which would certainly vaporize seagulls. I reckon it would have at least 2,000 foot pounds of shock - maybe even 20,000 or more - huh? :p :D

Maybe it was a 4.5 or a 45. automatic, not a .45 automatic.
"Considering that this is a 44. Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the universe, ya gotta ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?'"

I don't think I could do four adjectives worth of pondering while being shot at with a 2,000 ft/lb .45, or even a 70 ft/lb .25. My entire mental apparatus would be occupied with matters of cover, return fire, and clean underwear.
