i've got this 8mm mauser shell casing that i found at my local rifle range and im certain that it's surplus, but idk where it's from... im certain it's brass and not steel, it's got that red paint around the primer, and on the rim it says 22 on top and 73 on the bottom...

i was thinking that, but im no ammo expert so i wasn't even close to certain that's what it was... i hear most of the yugo surplus they have now, the stuff made in the 1950s, sucks bad often resulting in hangfires and/or misfires...

I've only had a couple misfires in hundreds of rounds of 8mm Yugo 50's stuff. Since I'm not using it for defense or hunting, it's not a big deal.

It depends, Dorkfish. There's the Zastava M76 chambered in 8mm, so they had to keep producing it for a long while.

well, i've heard that the romanian stuff was the best but it's getting harder and harder to find... i might just try the yugo stuff...

IDK bout' 8MM but the Romanian 7.62X54R is the BEST I have found.
Copper washed, STEEL core.. shoots through 5/8 plate @ 200 yards like it never hit anything. I would say the 8MM should be REAL GOOD!
I have a FN 8 barreled action waiting on Christmas for a nice stock and a good bit of various
surplus ammo from different countries/dates, etc,, so I'll have to get back with you around mid January to see results and post.
