Der Stro November 1, 2011, 12:26 PM No kidding we'll never see that gain, $80 for a Colt Officer Model
:)
M2 Carbine November 1, 2011, 04:19 PM How about $17 for a NIB GI 1911A1 bought from the government? (yes, our government when it was still "our government")
Delivered to your door by the Post Man.
It's changed over the years but here it is.:)

Ash_J_Williams November 1, 2011, 05:25 PM I would love a full-sized ad of the Iver Johnson hammerless ad.
ldhulk November 1, 2011, 06:56 PM Prices have gone up a bit. My first shotgun - a 12 ga pump, used, in good condition, cost my dad $25. I remember Mosin-Nagants advertised for $14.88. A new 30-30 lever action was about 75-80 dollars. I also remember 30 cent a gallon gas and a decent lunch for under a dollar. I carried a shotgun into high school to put on a safe gun handling demo...no problem. Today they call a swat team for a kindergarden kid with a butterknife in his lunch box
Gun Geezer November 1, 2011, 07:00 PM Bought my first 870 Wingmaster at a Walgreens drug store for $89.
I don't go by "Gun Geezer" for no reason.
highlander 5 November 1, 2011, 07:15 PM I can remember those prices. I can remember a Browning Hi Power going for $110.
I was buying .22 long rifle ammo at Sears for 50 cents a box of fifty. Bought a Winchester 94 from a local dept store for $69.95.
PapaG November 1, 2011, 07:28 PM First Ruger standard auto, $37.50, Blackhawk $67.50, Super Blackhawk $96. Original Second Gen SAA $125, Python $125, New Frontier $140, Gold Cup $150. Smith M&P 87 bucks....these are from when I was in high school. Model 12 was about $125 and a Superposed Browning was $325.
I bought surplus rolling blocks, Springfields, Enfields and so on and never paid over $20 each..had about fifty when I went to college. Sold all of them for tuition and made a minimum of 200%....If I'd hung on to them I'd be getting 1000%-2000%.
hammerklavier November 1, 2011, 07:28 PM "ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE IMPOSSIBLE"
Really?
VT Deer Hunter November 1, 2011, 08:13 PM Like the first one, but man is the second one is just bad.
22lr November 1, 2011, 08:23 PM Remember the guns of the time, having a gun that wouldn't go off when dropped was a selling point. I love the second add, reminds you that this country wasn't always seemingly paranoid about gun ownership.

REDMASTA November 2, 2011, 01:33 PM Looking at those old ads makes me sad at what this country has become.
Flintknapper November 2, 2011, 01:58 PM Probably won’t see this one distributed anymore either.
Rather embarrassing. (look closely)

El Mariachi November 2, 2011, 02:19 PM Are those rounds loaded backwards?....
raveneap November 2, 2011, 02:27 PM I can remember when $72.00 bought a new Winchester 94. Think it might have been Sears.
wannabeagunsmith November 2, 2011, 02:56 PM These do make me sad. Boy, I wish it was still like the '50s when you could buy an anti- tank rifle without months of paperwork, licenses, background checks, liberal laws/ freekouts, and not to mention only for $98.50. And shooting/gun ownership was NORMAL! nowadays if people even find out you have a .22 pistol they tend to get wide-eyed and scared. I may have only been on this planet since the mid 90's but I know that things weren't always as screwed up as they are now....
sansone November 2, 2011, 03:30 PM oh yes the cartridges ARE in the magazine backwards in post #22
Flintknapper November 2, 2011, 03:37 PM El Mariachi wrote:
Are those rounds loaded backwards?...
Yup!
I'm sure the folks at HK know better...but apparently whoever did the photo-shoot doesn't know their way around a gun or ammo.
Still, you would think someone at HK had to sign off on the brochure before it was distributed. :o

I posted the entirety of that ad (http://www.forgottenweapons.com/the-astra-903-nothing-new-in-advertising) (4 pages) today, coincidentally...
Gladius November 2, 2011, 08:40 PM GET BIG DICK and be envied by every boy in town....
Actually, you DO see that sentiment on TV all the time these days, only it's not for a toy gun... different times indeed....
Well, someone was gonna mention it....

He was pretty smooth! And the Marlboro man.
This page has scans of over a dozen machinegun price lists from 1956 to 1986 (when Hughes punched the Bill of Rights in the face)
