Walmart 9mm is $20/box of 100 ($.20/round)

aimplus 9mm hp is $210/case of 1000, plus ~$20 shipping:

hollowpoints for $30/case more?
cheapest i've seen for non-paper target rounds, but i've only gotten my 9mm a few months ago.

how are these for self defense?

I agree with 1KPerDay. This is a REAL nice deal ( I loves me some Aimsurplus:D) , but for personal/family defense, I'd keep my mags loaded with the proven performers, like Gold-Dots, HST's,Golden Sabres,etc.

those aguila's caught my eye also, not alot of information on them out there but i did find a youtube video that did an expansion test on it. sportsmans guide has some federal 147Gr. for around $15 a box
