Inspired by the Revolver Picture Thread of All Time (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=338194) thread over in the revolver forum, how about a picture thread dedicated to BP revolvers? Let's try not to make it a discussion thread; rather pics with brief (or no) comment. The more the merrier! (I love picture threads!)

I can kick things off with an Uberti 1847 Walker kit, originally built by someone else, but cleaned up and "finished" by your truly.

Both Ubertis. Picture was taken before I stripped the blue from the Walker's cylinder.

The nice holster is a cross draw by Dan Brooks; the other is Cabela's.

I tried, but my photo taking skills are getting worse and worse, it seems. I have an Uberti Walker that I just bought, the seller bought it new and never fired it, and I still haven't fired it either. Got it for $375 w/box & etc., figured that was an OK price.

Big ol' hog it is, beautiful quality too IMO. I'm dying to try it out! What's the recommended charge for a Walker? There's nothing that came with it giving a charge number, and I've "heard" anywhere from 60gr. up to 72gr. with TWO balls in each chamber. I ain't putting two balls in, NFW, but I'd like to know the min. & max. charges, please. I have a jug of Pyrodex P, "the FFFG equivalent", it says.

I just hope this one shoots better than my Pietta 1851 Navy.....

Here's mine. Purchased about 40 years ago when the LGS went out of business, and I had the local saddle-maker make a belt and holster for it. The little piece of rawhide at the top of the holster, would hook over the hammer. During deer season it was loaded with #6 shot for rattlers. Ha, puts a smile on my face when I think about it.

I am embarrassed to post the only 2 I have at the moment, but ya gotta start somewhere. The Colt I got in April this year and the Remmy mysteriously arrived around Labor Day, ( I suspect it was the Colt's doings as it seems possesed by the Cabela's curse) I am even more embarrased to say that I consider them both virgins, the Remmy has never tasted powder yet while the Colt has had 40-50 rounds using Pyrodex P (which didn't fill me with the inspiration I remember from back in my teen years) and I tried a few rounds with the Cult of 2F 777. ( not impressed but that was due to my ignorance, 1 Thou shalt not over compress, or 2 Thou shalt not have a heavy hand on thy loading lever) I did get a strange e-mail saying I was to expect, and greet, the arrival of the big brown stagecoach on the 9th of Nov. bearing the emissaries of the Holy Black from the church of Powder Inc. (again I suspect the Colt, the curse has mutated) Communion to be served on Thanksgiving by the Denominations of Goex, Kik and Swiss, with a reception later that evening at the Ye ole washtub..BYOB (Bring your own Brush) lol

Had to sell a few of mine over the years, including a fully-engraved nickle and 24kt gold ASM 1858, a 1858 with a 12" bbl, and a really smooth 1873 SAA look-alike that was cap n ball. Here's what I still have and truly love. I started owning firearms with nothin but cap n balls for several years, and I still LOVE to shoot them!

The revolver with the bone grips and crossed key marks appears to be the type described in an article in The Gun Report from May 1986. Also on p.140 of The Book of Colt Firearmsby R.L. Wilson and R.Q. Sutherland, described as a "Brooklyn Bridge" revolver because of the cylinder scene.
Made by A Masaree of Belgium, sold by Adolf Frank Export Company (ALFA) of Germany as a "piston revolver" (presumably referring to the action of the loading lever). It was the first 20th century copy of a Colt cap and ball revolver.
Shown below is part of the 1911 A. Frank catalog describing these pistols.

Here's what I know about the keygun. The originals were iron and were jailer's keys. On this one, there are absolutely no maker's or proof marks. The hammer and trigger work as they should but they are on a really weak spring...would'nt ignite a cap. The barrel is bored to just over 4mm. I Think this was a project gun for for a for a hobbiest......and a damn good one at that !! At any rate, it's probably the closest I'll ever get to the real thing so I'm glad to have it.

Well, I've seen a few of these pics before; so I think I'll recycle my favorite of my two from the Remington owners thread. (It's not perfect, but it's d*mn good for my limited capabilities)

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l206/JMAllenYuma/p_00045.jpg

Yes, only two. I have three kids of my own, seem to have "adopted" another (and her 3 children); three horses, one house payment, one truck payment, a '73 Mercury Cougar "under re-construction", 4H and FFA commitments, financial and otherwise......... It's a wonder I have the TWO!
Someday, Imagonna "run away" -and take my checkbook- for a few months to save up for a couple of R&D/Howell's conversion cylinders in .45Colt.
THEN I'll have to run away again to save up for the cartridge loader.

And I still need to order a good holster for not too many simoleans (the curse of left-handedness) for the 'little brother' so it can stop hiding in the Safariland 6" N-Frame Duty Holster for my 629! And many thanks to the guys who pointed out that Rem 1875's and Colt 1873's are close enough in size that I should be able to fit a short NMA in a holster built for either of the others.

Not a great pic, but the target was 6 shots off hand at 10 yard with 30 gr of FFFG Goex.

My one and only cap & ball. It's out getting a few upgrades right now. Will post more pics when it comes back.

The upgrades are a lowered hammer, taller front sight, action job, lettering on barrel removed and a 45 Colt conversion cylinder, done by THR's own HoofHearted.

At some point in the future, it'll get new grips as well.

Here's my 1858 Remington in .44 caliber.
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x372/busyhands94/001.jpg

And my .22 North American Arms cap and ball revolvers:
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x372/busyhands94/001-2.jpg

I made a converter for my NAA super companion today, it converts my NAA cap and ball to a single shot .22 pistol! I shot .22 blackpowder shorts I made for it today, it works perfectly! the device is held in place by the flat spot on top and the slot the cylinder pin goes through on the bottom. It's still rough and needs to be polished and blued, but I like it!
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x372/busyhands94/001-4.jpg
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x372/busyhands94/004.jpg

The rim of the .22 is countersunk, and a firing pin is put on top of it. That firing pin transfers the energy from the flat firing pin to the rim of the cartridge. That goes in on top of the cartridge.

Thank you! I am actually planning to make one for my 1858 Remington, although I am going to need a spare cylinder to line for that. I know right now it's not too good looking but it does work and it does set off rimfire cartridges and doesn't explode with the intended ammo. I haven't shot it with smokeless .22s and don't plan to ever do that until I know it's safe and proof it. I'll just rig up a vice, bullet trap, and string in the shop so I don't have to risk it. Besides, those blackpowder .22s are so fun! What I need to do is get a Henry or some lever action .22 to shoot these things in. Good stuff right there!

it's so ugly it's pretty!

Busyhands94
December 22, 2011, 02:34 PM
Well Phil's gun may not be aesthetically pretty, but sometimes beauty isn't in the aesthetics. A lot of the time beauty is in the function! I mean a Glock ain't purdy, but it works really well. As long as Phil likes it and can shoot with it it's doing it's job quite well.
