WOOOO HOOOOO!!
Just picked up a new 1911 A1 Stainless Mil spec today (after waiting the obligatory 10 days, paying the DROS fee, paying the HSC fee, passing the HSC test, demonstrating to the dealer for his affidavit to the State of Kaleeforniya that I could operate a trigger lock and safely load and unload the pistol, etc et yada.......)

Anyway, while disassembling the pistol, the slide hung up and would not move.....turns out the disconnector was a little rough. With the barrel and recoil spring removed, I ran the slide along the frame about 100 times, and it's smoothed out.

Question is-there is an engraved number "611" along the bottom of the slide, the part that depresses the disconnector. Looks like it was made with a hand engraving pen. Just below in the recess of the slide are stamped S H 6 1 1. Also, in the forward part of the frame, just below where the barrel would be (sorry I don't know the nomenclature better, I will learn) is engraved 611, again with the engraving pen. I would assume this is some kind of mark that matches the slide with the frame, but why engrave along the part of the slide that depresses the disconnector?

This is no big deal, I intend to get to the range tomorrow and continue to smooth things out. :)
