My Maks and Waltehr P-1, which I ordred from SOG have arrived.

For those who might be intereste, the Maks are in excellent (about 98%) condition, with no bluing wear, but both are quite well covered in preservative grease.

I'll likely have to spend an hour getting them cleaned up, but for the price ($129 + Shipping), I was pleased at their condition. Each came with two mags (one S/N to match the pistol) two grips, and the Combo tool.

The Walther P-1 is also in excellent (about 95%) condition with the only finish wear being along the corneres of the slide.

The slide is dated 5/76 and the numbers on both slide and frame match. The bore is in great shape, and the grips show only minor handling marks.

It came with two magazines plus a black leather flap-style holster, also in excellent shape with no cracks or tears and the finish is quite nice.

For $185 plus shipping... It's a keeper.

I got a SOG P-1 last week. Mine wasn't in as good of condition as yours unfortunately. I even did the $10 extra for handpicked. I've heard that is hit or miss, mine was miss. It is probably somewhere between very good & good. Acceptance date on it is 12/60. Cleaned it up over the weekend but haven't shot it yet.

I had no idea they were that inconsistent in terms of condition... I hope they both turn out to be shooters! :D

Mine looks better now that it is cleaned up, the scratches aren't as visible. This will just be a shooter for fun. I have better choices for concealed carry or the house. Read that most of these don't do well with HP. Fits good in my hand, feels like it points very well.

I ordered an new/excellent, but my dealer took awhile ordering and they sent what they had left. Not so new or excellent. I passed on that.

I'm thinking more and more that a new FEG hi-power is probably a better use of $200.


Anybody need a spare P1/P38 factory mag? Like new, parkerized with Walther banner.

I hear some of the P1's that have been recieved have the steel hexagonal cross bolt through the frame where the locking block cams.

How many of you recieved the lastest model with this cross bolt and how many recieved the old model without it and what year of date was stamped on your pistol?

My P1 is dated 7/86, and it has the reinforcing pin. All P1s made after the mid-1960s have been thusly refitted.

Mine does not have the reinforcing pin. It has an acceptance date of 12/60. I understand from some research and the P-38 forum that they started manufacturing them with it in 1975. Also told that it shouldn't be a problem though if you stick to standard pressure ammo.

Ive heard that you need to get one made after 1975 also.I wouldnt get one without the reinforcement personally.

I tell you, it's a Golden Age we're living in where an excellent condition real German Walther is running under $200.00. Man, I wish it had been this way back when I was a poor college student. Now I'm dying to buy one "just because," but I have absolutely no need for it . . . I have other, better (for my purposes) 9x19s.

It's still just driving me crazy. If there are any poor college students out there, jump on this P-1 deal and think of sad old me. :(

Erich, I agree with you. It would be as if the Army released a bunch of pristine 1911A1s for $200. They ought to jump on these coz five years from now they will be $500 again. :cool:

Daniel, I'd do it except for the fact that you are a Boilermaker (like my two brothers). I went to IU (even though I grew up just a bit west of you, just NW of the Granville Bridge). :D BigG, it never occurred to me that the Army ever had pristine 1911A1s . . . all of them I've seen had been ridden hard and put away wet. Man, that's a good analogy, though. Can you imagine a pristine milsurp 1911A1 for $200.00?

They released a whole bunch of them thru the NRA back in the sixties for about $19.00 each. They were pristine, just like new issue. Makes you kinda sick to think about it, don't it?

Well I dont know about pristine but I do have one of the cheep .45 NRA surplus 1911s. its a 1911 and not a A-1. Only reasion its not pristien is its been parked at for ww-2.ahhhh 375 bucks in 1984 dollors though.
