I got dressed for church this morning and went out to just hunt a couple hours, but instead the Lord blessed me with a nice east Texas 8 point. I was about to get out of my ground blind and head to my truck when this buck crossed my hay meadow about 100 yards to my right. I shot him in the heart using RWS 184 gr Rapid X ammo from my Blaser K95 in 30-06.

I try to get my youngest son to take all my kill photos because he really has an eye for composing a visually pleasing picture. He is a senior in high school and planning to go off to school next year, and I don't know what I am going to do then.

Good looking deer! Ive seen deer that size pulled out of the woods back home, but I never had the patience enough to shoot one. I always ended up taking out one of the seemingly 5.5 million does. Congrats on a great looking deer!

Have you used the RWS bullet much?

I noticed Midway had them on sale about a month ago (in .308) for a ridiculously low price. Called my brother and told him about them. He bought 5 boxes for his .308 but so far we haven't been able to recover a bullet from anything he has shot.

I assume they are expanding....but I KNOW they are penetrating.

We'll have to shoot some into wet newsprint or phone books I suppose.

We pulled a bullet to look at the construction, pretty cool: Concave base, dual diameter, bonded bullet, nickle plated with some type of brass looking tip to initiate expansion.

We got a lot of variance over the chronograph from them...but they are loaded fairly healthy for their weight (184 grs.)

I have owned that gun less than a week and already killed two deer with it, and it is a sweet heart to shoot.
Here is my first kill with a better picture of the gun.

Shhh, don't tell Cabelas. They don't want anyone to know its possible to kill deer while dressed in normal clothes. If this picture gets out, their entire business plan will collapse.

But seriously, that's a fine looking Buck and a great picture.

I have shot less than a box and only killed these two deer using the RWS ammo, but it shoots well and is cheaper than me reloading it.

I just put a tape on this deer and came up with a gross of 126.75" which is not bad for an 8 point around here. He weighed right at 150 pounds on the hoof, and by the teeth, I am fairly sure he was 4.

About 25-30 years ago, I wore camo as a fashion statement, but now, I pretty much just wear what I wear to work which is blue jeans, work boots, and a long sleeved shirt. After hunting in Oklahoma for several years now, I kind of like having on a little hunter orange just to be safe.

Cabelas, Bass Pro, Academy, Wulf, etc are making a killing off camo clothing, and thanks to the Outdoor Channel, many/most hunters think they have to wear what the "pros" do to be successful as a hunter. What a crock!!!

I am pretty sure the buck I killed yesterday is the brother to a 7 point I killed last year. He had really similar browtines and dark horns too.
