T/c Omega

Hi all this is my first post with you. I have a questand the Omega has a 1/24 twist my Hawkens has a 1/48 will the Omega shoot round balls and the 320 gr maxi-ball or will it only shoot the sabath bullets. TIA

What caliber is your Omega... because mine has a 1:28 twist in .50. Maybe the .45's have 1:24. I fire lapped mine with patched round balls and 50 grains of RS, and it shot awful. OF course that could've been because the patches were liberally soaked in fine lapping compound, but I think the twist had something to do with it. You can't spin a roundball too fast or it will fly erratically on it's flightpath. So as far as the Omega is concerned, shoot full bore conicals or saboted bullets for the best results.

Incidentally, I have found that longer, heavier bullets work best out of the Omega.

My .50 CAL Omega took four deer this year. I have had great luck with the 240 GR bullets and sabots and also tried the 295 GR. powerbelts on two deer this year. It knocked them down like a steam roller. I have never tried any of the round balls. The Omega seems like it is going to be a great muzzleloader if you care anything for in lines.
