My wife bought a SR40c today. $409 new from the local gas station gun store.

I had @ 100 reloads I was given and she bought a box of "Independence" brand ammo, FMJ.

The gun didn't preform well with the Box ammo she bought. the slide often wouldn't close the last 1/16".

Only had that happen 2 or 3 times with the reloads, which were slightly longer, JHP.

Worked fine with the Winchester pdx1.

Is this just a cheap ammo issue? We will restock this week and keep shooting. She needs the practice.

I haven't had a problem at all with my SR40c with round nose, hollow point, flat nose ammo in several different bullet weights, both store bought and handloads. I'd try several other brands or types of ammo to see if it's a problem with the Independence ammo or the gun.

I have only used factory ammo and I have had NO problems :D

Congrats on the new SR40c

Shoot straight and safe,

Could be a break-in issue. Some automatics work better after you put a few hundred rounds through them.

Independence ammo is the cheapest ammo around for a reason.

the same thing (failure to return to battery) happened to my Glock 36 when I first got it. After breaking her in a few hundred rounds, the occurence dropped significantly to only about 2-3 out of 100. I tried to figure out what it was, finally altering my grip and that seems to have fixed the issue, fwiw.

I cleaned the striker last night and we shot again a few minutes ago. No problems. The gun worked fine. We were shooting Winchester white box.

The only ammo I've ever had a problem with in my Sig was Independance. You could look across the top of the box, and many of the rounds were set at different depths. I had a few FTFs which caused me to examine the rest of the ammo. Made me nervous to shoot the rest. I don't think I'll be buying any more Independance!

Congrats, on the Sr40c. I'm glad yours worked out of the box. Mine didn't but Rugers CS came through in a big way and all is well with it. I've put wwb, federal fmj's, and hornady critical defense through mine with no failures upon its return from the factory.

When my son got his new FN-9 he bought a box of Independance ammo. The gun didn't work hardly at all. I tried a mag of my reloads and it was perfect. I took it to the range with a box of some other store bought brand and it worked fine. It was 100% the crap ammo. I shoot mostly my reloads and have no problems. I never heard of Independance and never want to again. :D

Since its a new gun, you ought to take it apart and clean it, then go shoot it! Apply some good gun oil to the slide, springs etc., then try it. Bet it'll shoot better.
