I finally got out to the range today to check out some of my reloads. I was trying out some 4064, H4831SC, Varget, and 4320 powders that were in some boxer primed commercial reloads and some berdan primed POF brass that I had dissassembled and replaced the powder and projectile. I only used the berdan primed brass for the longer stick powders and will try some H4831 in the mix at some time.

The berdan POF stuff was still it's unpredictable self with some click--bang, some bang, and some clibang. I have not tried all of the stuff I have reloaded but I am certainly developing the opinion that the 303 British with 174 grain projectiles is made for lighting up with berdan primers. The groups were much better with the berdan stuff.

Some of you guys out there might try this out because it seems to make enough of a difference to work on some loads for as-issued matches.

POF is junk and always will be. It's possible that the commercial reloads that were boxer wern't loaded properly. Anyway berdan is out and boxer is in. You probably put more effort into the POF brass than the other guy that assembled the commercial loads. Hey, I could be wrong too, but it's just not worth the trouble imho.

You are cleaning for corrosive primers aren't you?
Because that POF will turn your rifle into a POS if you don't.
Load Boxer primed PPU, HXP, PMP or other cases that are not SAAMI spec, but follow the British spec for .303 brass and your opinion regarding the Berdan/accuracy link may change.
