Ok its late....and Im a little tired...but I have a question. We all have seen various knives on the market...with a matt black finish. I have a Kershaw BOA...that is finished that way.....and I kind of like the no glare apperance.......which leads me to wonder.......has anyone refinished a bright steel blade..with a matt black?? If so what -- how did you do it??

I have my 1968 Camillus (Ka-Bar style) combat knife and my Black Jack throwing knife out to be powder coated in a matt black finish. Both knives were surface rusted. The Camillus was found under the seat of an old beater pick up I bought years ago and the Black Jack sat in the bottom of my tool box for years. You can imagine what Michigan winters and salt will do to a carbon steel blade of a truck knife.
I had it media blasted but the pitting was a bit deeper than I thought.
I'll let you know how they turn out and try to post pics whan they get back.

I spoke to Mark at http://arizonaresponsesystems.com/ and he said the price to refinish a knife would be @ $15 or so - about the cost of refinishing a magazine.

I have had no need to do this yet, but for only $15 and because he is local, that is who I would go with.
