might be cause its a Marlin manufactured gun with the Glenfield name and the Model 65 is the model designation for Glenfield.

Somebody put a 99 stock set on a 65 or somebody put a 65 barrel on a 99

I believe borrowedtime is correct. I have an old Glenfield version of a Marlin model 60 it is marked Glenfield model 75C. The Glenfields just have a different name & model number on them but they are the same gun as the Marlins.

That's what I thought too, but my dad says his grandfather bought this at sears in 1964 ( two years before they were supposed to be available ) and no one had ever messed with it. Great g-pa put maybe 500 rds through this his whole life.

Didn't the original model 65 have a brass loading tube?

If it was a Frankenstein then they changed the load tube too, or it was changed to conform to california 10 rd law. but this gun has been in my safe for 26 years and the cali 10 round law wasn't in effect back then.

I also thought maybe they ran out of barrels that had the 99m1 stamp during a production run and they just used some model 65 barrels they had laying around?

P.s. this thing has a slide lock button on top of the slide handle

also, anyone know where I should be able to find the serial # on this thing? nothing on the barrel or the action or loading tube. Is it inside the action?

A lot of manufacturers did not serial number their guns prior to the Gun Control Act of 1968

Sweet! thanks for the info Mike
So now i know it's at least older than '68

it does have an FL stamped in the left side of the barrel just before the stock and a Y stamped in the right side of the action right where it meets the barrel.
