I was thinking about one ofthese (http://pub113.ezboard.com/fparallaxscurioandrelicfirearmsforumsfrm85.showMessage?topicID=133.topic) for my K-31. I was wondering what would be an appropriate scope to use on this. Perhaps a 2x or 3x pistol scope? Whats the highest magnification I can get and use on a scout style mount? I was planning on using this for pig, coyote, and the rare North American Coke can.

I have a NC Star 2X on mine. They can be picked up on ebay for about $30(!!) They also go by the name of New Century. Some may dismiss them as Chinese junk but mine has held up fine and shoots sub MOA with GP-11. The 2.5 X also seems to work fine and the 2-7X has had good reports as well. The 4X is said to be too long for proper eye relief.

Whats the highest magnification I can get and use on a scout style mount? I don't have a K-31, but I use one of those mounts on my M-39 Mosin Nagant. I love it! I use a Weaver pistol scope that works great even after the punishing recoil of 7.62x54R heavy ball surplus. It has a variable magnification from 2x to 9x which covers every use of the rifle that I can think of.

I just got one of those mounts for my K31, but haven't done anything with it yet. A couple years ago I bought one from him for my M39.
I was well satisfied with it.
With my M39 I used a Burris Scout Scope. I believe it is 2x but am not real sure. The reason I bought the mount was that I wanted to see just how accurate the rifle was. I fired a few groups at 100 yards from the bench and then removed the scope and mount and returned the rifle to it's original condition. The scout scope was put back on my Marlin 444.
I own two K31s and am going to mount a scope on one and leave it. I happen to have two pistol scopes lying around the house here. I am going to use one that is 4x. I got the scope mounted on a used S&W 686. I didn't like the look of the black scope on the stainless gun plus 4x was very difficult for me to shoot on a handgun. So, I purchased a silver scope in 2x for the pistol. I sent the 4x black scope back to Leupold and had them rebuild it (just because) and it has been sitting ever since.
Now that you reminded me of this I might have to get working on that project today.

What kind of mount is that, and where can I get one. Stoney, it's made by a gentleman named Darrell over on the Parallax C&R board. The mounts are of excellant quality and almost everyone who's tried one and appreciates Scout mounts in general will highly recommend it.

The only problem is he makes limited runs of them so if you don't catch him with a good inventory, you'll have to wait for the next production run. However, they are well worth the wait. I have three Mosin Nagant mounts, one for the M-39, one for the 91/30 or 91/59 and one for the M38 or M44. The M44 mount is the new improved version like the one in the pic above. It's lower, has an integrated rail instead of an add on and it uses the original pin at the front instead of screws. It really is much better than his old mount.

The dedicated "scout" scope is made by two companies. Leupold makes a 2.5X IER and Burris makes a 1X & 2.75X.
You might have luck with a pistol scope but make sure you know the eye relief for the scope and measure the distance where it will fit on your rifle.

I have a 2.75X in my 45-70 guide gun. I have no problem hitting a 6" disk at 200 yds. If I had a flatter shooting round, I would say 300yds wouldn't be out of the question.

Eye relief on pistol scopes may vary from 10 to 14 inches depending on the model.
