I am sure many of you have seen my posts of gear for sale here recently. I have sold a few guns and radios and other items to buy an engagment ring for my girlfriend. There was a clear understanding that whatever guns I sold would be replaced, so do not worry about me in that department.
Well, yesterday I finished paying for the ring and I am now 100% officially engaged!
She wanted me to do it in such a manner that she would have no idea what was going on until the moment I actually asked her. I had to throw out any sappy romantic ideas because she would know right away what was going on. I knew that I had to trick her. She was under the impression that I would not be able to finish paying for the ring for another two weeks.
I finished paying for the ring yesterday morning, and the guys at ShaneCo rushed and got everything all finished up for me. I called her mother yesterday afternoon and told her I wanted to come see her and her husband this week. She said her husband would be out of town for a solid week, so I suggested coming down there tonight (Tuesday). She asked me if this was about the ring, and I told her I had the ring and diamond. She was so excited. She told me that it would be ok to just call in the evening and talk to both of them over the phone and ask for the blessing. I called them last night and got the blessing to ask!
I picked the ring up from ShaneCo and headed to her apartment. We both take a lot of photographs, and it is a strong common interest that we share. She is not into firearms, but with a little work, I can get her interested. I made up a little photo album with some of our recent pictures in it and I put a "Will you marry me?" card in the middle. I walked into her aparatment and she was on the computer editing some of our pictures. I asked her, "you had a bad day, right?" She said, "it was not the best." I said, "I have something that I think will cheer you up." I handed her the photo album and told her, "it has some recent pictures that you have not seen." I got down on one knee as if I was looking through the album with her. She flips the pages of picture of us, and some of our friends, and some of the ducks in the pond, and she gets to the "Will you marry me?" card. I had the ring hidden under my shirt and I showed it to her. She jumped up and screamed and laughed and cried and hugged me. She finally let go so I could put the ring on her finger. She had no idea what was going on until she turned the page.
We went out for some desserts and wine and called everyone we could think of. She already wrote me this morning from her school (she teaches first grade), and has told everyone. We are getting married on December 18th. I will be sure to post pictures as soon as they are available.
