I moved to Vegas over two years ago from Iowa. I Shot with a club out there, and miss it a lot. I now have the time to start shooting again. Anybody know of a good club here in Las Vegas? That has competition shooting matches (preferably assault courses). Any info would be appreciated.

Hey Jarrod. I don't live in Vegas but I remembered seeing some groups posted on a good firearms site I visted a while back. Check out thisSite (http://thecurmudgeon.freeservers.com/fa-index.html) for some leads that may help. Go to the links page and select "competition".

Apparently the most active local club is Desert Sportsman; out on Desert Inn on the waaaay west side IIRC. Just get yourself there and you WILL learn more about local members and activities; even our DBS.:D

Boulder Rifle & Pistol Club in BC (phone 293-1885, IIRC--they are in the book last time I checked), has in recent years added a fair number of public bermed ranges from 25 to 100 yards. They are open most weekends and charge $5 to shoot, with simple check-in back behind the line. Check them out. I think membership is $50 per year.

Desert Sportsmans is located on extreme west Charleston almost to Red Rock Canyon. When you drive out Charleston you come to a point where the road takes a sharp left hand turn at a large water retention basin. Just past this basin in the left side of the road is Desert Sportsmans.

I am not sure what you mean by "Assult Courses" but they offer IDPA, IPSC, machine gun matches, three gun matches, handgun silhouette, benchrest, small bore rifle silhouette, lever action rifle silhouette, vintage bolt action rifle matches, Highpower .............................................. pretty much anything except shotgun sports other than 3 gun.

If you are interested, I will send you an application for membership but the matches are held on weekends and are open to the public. During the week, the club is open to members only for general range shooting.

* Don't quote me on all the stuff they have there. I am a member but don't participate very often because I live in Pahrump. I don't have the newsletter in front of me to see exactly what events they have there but I believe all of the above is correct.
