I was wanting to strip off the old finish on my newly acquired Russian capture, and wasn't too sure of the correct prodedure for taking the stock off of the rifle. I know the front barrel band should just come off towards the front site, but how is the best way to achieve this? What else is involved besides removing the screws on floorplate/triggerguard? Also there is a lot of the red color coming thru from the laminated stock, which will become more pronounced once the shellac is removed. Any thoughts on getting rid of the red? I thought I had seen another web site regarding these things, but can't seem to locate.

Get a third hand for removing that barrel band.. i used a wood clamp to squeeze the spring loaded lever in and then tapped off the barrel band with dowel rod and hammer

Try this site for anything else Mauser takedown (http://www.surplusrifle.com/mauser98k/index.asp)

Thanks tc300, that was the web site I was looking for. I'll try the clamp/hammer routine.
