I recently purchased a Glock 21, what do I need to buy to keep it in good order?

1) A good cleaning kit.
2) Some quality gun oil.
3) Cases of ammo.
You don't need much to keep a Glock healthy. :D

BretS -- Welcome to THR!
To keep your G21 in good working order:
1. Lots of ammo, range time and targets for practice.
2. Some training -- I'm sure there are a lot of trainers in your area and THR members in your area can point you in the right direction. You should first look for training that covers safety and legalities of defensive gun use. Then go for shooting techniques and CCW certification if applicable. Classes I've taken usually cover all of these to some degree.
3. For cleaning, a cleaning rod - not aluminum, .45 cal. bore brush, bore patches, a cleaning solvent and a lubricant. I use good old Hoppes #9 as a solvent to clean out fouling, Hoppes Lubricating oil to lubricate the metal parts and Rem oil for spraying into hard-to-reach areas. These products are 40+ years old (guns have smelled like Hoppes as long as I remember), but there are some newer products out there. Also use Q-tips and paper towels for cleaning. If your Glock did not come with instructions for disassembly and cleaning, do an online search.
4. Some method for keeping it away from children or visitors. Either constant carry, a good hiding place, a gun safe or a trigger lock.
5. A good holster if you ever plan to carry your Glock. The Glock's safety is entirely dependent on the trigger, so a holster needs to cover the trigger. I'm not sure of how good it is for concealed carry, but the Fobus paddle holster is an inexpensive (~$20) plastic holster that works well with a Glock.
Lots of folks around here will have excellent advice and cover anything I've missed.
Have fun and safe shooting!

Let's get to the range!
Don't forget hearing protection and eye protection.
The first time you shoot the gun, only put one round in it. Then go to two rounds before you go for the full mag. This way if the gun goes full auto on you, you only need to keep it in control for the two shots.

I truly hope that this is a joke. If it's not, then it should be!

If you're actually going to want to use it for carry/defense/etc:
-Gabe Suarez Manual (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0873648641/ref=pd_bxgy_text_1/002-1965098-7448817?v=glance&s=books)
-2000 rounds of .45 hardball
-At least 3 more magazines
-High quality holster and a real gunbelt
-Enjoy. :D

I've found that my Glocks thrive on neglect.
I do recommend that you avoid non-jacketed ammo.
Check out GLOCKTALK.COM for plenty of Glock info.

Wow, I was wondering when someone would suggest, the dirtier the better, so to speak, but to "thrive" is an especially outstanding testomial. No need for cleaning, testing, lubrication, all ammo, anytime, anywhere, with anyone, first out of the box.
PERFECTION! Now that is the DARKSIDE!:D
Maybe I need to reconsider and buy one.

I just bought a G21 last week. Big, pleasant-shooting weapon. Less recoil than my G20, but same familiar feel. Seems fairly accurate, too.
My suggestions for a G21 "kit":
Ammo
Lots of mags
A steel cleaning rod kit
Shooter's Choice bore solvent
Tetra gun grease
Q-tips (for hard-to-reach places that need cleaning)
A box to carry it all (I use a cheap plastic toolbox)
And most of all...
...the willingness to have fun with it!
