I'm looking at the M9, I like the grip and sights and the price seems great at 279.00, so what's wrong with it?

At that price is something wrong with them?

I currently have 4 Glocks, 2 CZ, a 45 and about 10 other handguns.

Do I need to add this to the collection?

Thanks Bushmaster

P.S. I'm new here. Seems like the same layout as thefiringline.com are they connected in any way?

You can't go wrong with the Steyr's at that price----good guns----great price----you'll have to get some extra mags though---as they only come with one.

The forum is sort of a spin-off from TFL when they shut that one down.

Theres a neverending debate about the safety of the design of the Steyrs.A very small minority that claims to know something about gun design claims they are an accident waiting to happen.See my current post and run a search both here and at TFL.The Firing line is the older sibling to the high road.It was disbanded with much sadness a year or so ago.And welcome!:)

I recently received the Steyr M40 & 6 LE mags from CDNN.
I completely disassembled cleaned and lubed it. It the range 800 rds without a hitch, Not one problem. Totally stripped it down again and could barely tell it was fired. I read all the posts about the guns safety and reliability and desided to form my own opinion so I ordered it. After shooting it, the guns accuracy is superb, ergonomics are perfect for me. I just might order another.
One issue keeps coming up with it's design is the fact the pistol dosnt have a firing pin drop safety. I understand the value of that feature and would have liked to have seen it incorporated but it doesn't concern me. I have carried alot of guns prior to the advent of this safety feature and have never had a problem. Could something happen,,,Yes any mechanical devise can fail no matter how many safeties a pistol has, but the only one that matters is the one between your ears. I would also bet there have been more pistols made and carried without this feature than with it, in overall auto loader production.

I am SO jealous.

I have 10 mags for my M40 ... all of them the neutered mags big brother lets us serfs own ... for now.

they are pretty good guns I have 2 M40's and I am working on getting a M9. you can use m40 mags in the m9 for 12-13 rounds of 9mm though you need to tweak the feed lips slightly to hold 9mm reliably otherwise they can fly out instead of feeding. mag still has to feed 10 rounds of 40 after modification. it can use both when tweaked right.

not many aftermarket accessories though steyr is supposed to be setting up shop in usa done by middle of february so parts will no longer be an issue and accessories should be coming soon after.

you cant find a better pistol for the price of the steyr m9 and m40 $270-80.

you can get the sights replaced and you can always put something over the grip so you have more texture, less slick polymer. usasteyr.com has 3dot night sights and another set of sights availible. no rail accessories for M or S series exception being new MA1 coming soon.

As far as I know, they are alright. The thing that turned me off about them was those really funky sights!!! Triangles are not my cup of tea!!

There is nothing wrong with them!!(IMHO) I've had a Steyr M9 for about a year and a half and I've put over 2500 rounds thru mine without a single problem or failure. The Steyr M9 has a better than average trigger (better than Glock IMHO), has a low bore axis, making it a natural pointer and also reducing felt recoil, it is very accurate, it's easy to take down and clean, and has good grip ergonomics.
As to why the price is so low, it may be that they just didn't catch on here in the U.S., they had a problem of not having a U.S. distributor for awhile, and probably most important, is that Steyr has come out with a new, ?improved? pistol called the M-A1.------The one issue I did have with the Steyr M9, was I felt that the grip was a little too slick for wet or sweaty hands, it looks like the new M-A1 has addressed this.
I haven't had the opportunity to see the M-A1 in person or handle one but I believe that Steyr will have one at their booth at the Shot Show in Las Vegas this month. For more info check out their website:
www.steyr-mannlicher.com

I will buy a M-A1 when (hopefully) they are available in the U.S., but you can bet they'll cost more than what you can get the M9 for.
