Looking for case dimensions for a 6 mm Ackley Improved.
Got a Win M70 in the shop, had a barrel replacement - barrel was not stamped to indicate caliber.
The chamber cast indicates it's in the 6mm/244 area and has an approx. 40 deg shoulder.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

The "Rule of Thumb" on an Ackley chamber is to cut it so there is an approximate 0.005" crush fit when chambering a factory case.
I've noted that my AI cases shorten slightly in fireforming. I'd think you could subtract 0.004-.006" from the casehead-to-datum line measurement of a .244/6MM Remington case and be in the ball park... Or I could be wrong as hell...
It sure sounds like you have an AI chamber to me. Take- or send- that chamber cast to a 'smith experienced in AIs.
Good luck,
Tom

The RCBS disc shows the .244 Ackley as having a 30* shoulder at 1.7250" from the base, and the neck at 1.8810" up.
The shoulder diameter is listed at .4560"
I have seen a reference to an Ackley #2, with a 40* shoulder IF I remember correctly. That is a huge IF. Mnemosyne has neglected me a lot lately.
Cheers from Darkest California,
Ross
