While this isn't exactly a big issue to most members here I think the RKBA should worry everyone regardless of the location. The Laurel County Fiscal Court is attempting to ban the possession of concealed firearms in county buildings. While they are within their legal abilities to do so, I say don't fix what is not broke. We have been able to carry concealed firearms in county buildings for 15 years and have had no problems. But for some reason they feel now is a good time to jump into the arena of gun control. If you all get bored and feel like making some phone calls, here ya go:

Laurel County Magistrates
District 1- Roy Crawford 606-878-8200
District 2- Danny Smith 606-862-8258
District 3- Teddy Benge 606-864-9574
District 4- Jeff Book 606-843-7862
District 5- Billy Oakley 606-864-5046
District 6- Noah Baker 606-864-6607
Laurel County Judge/Executive David Westerfield 606-864-4640

All but the last number are home numbers, so the evening hours would work best.

Do you have a link to anything on this?

Yes, I forgot to post it. The article is mainly about a synthetic marijuana ban, but they decided to throw in some gun control for good measure. The part about the gun control only got 1 line in the article(3rd paragraph from the bottom).

Small world! I'm a Laurel Co resident myself. Myself and my father in had spoken to Roy about this. Hopefully it won't make it through!

I'm please to let you know that as of yesterday, 1/23/12 they have decided to drop the issue of the concealed carry ban. Keep an eye out on them, I don't want to see thing rear its ugly head again.

Gun Control in The Bluegrass? It's gotta' be a clever ploy to avoid the chance of their own re-election!

That's what I thought as well. I can see it from the more liberal areas of the state, like Louisville and Lexington, but you don't get much more conservative that London, KY. But that just goes to show you gun supporters and gun grabbers are in both parties. The fiscal court is 6 republican magistrates and a republican judge executive.

I figured it would get thrown out before I went much further, but I'll keep my eyes open as you can never tell what they'll try next.

the more liberal areas of the state, like Louisville and Lexington, Yep, I'm about ready to trade our Golden Triangle (the above cities + Frankfort) away to Massachusetts in exchange for a future draft choice.

It just goes to show, you never know where this will come from. I never would have expected this in Laurel County. Lot's of good people there. Hopefully this will get blocked. Good luck!

My wife is from there, and her family still lives there. This surprises me, but many government types, even County ones are not freedom lovers as we know. In PA we can't carry them in any government buildings, and have to go through airport style security to get in.

The vast majority of elected representatives like to control the people who they represent. I just never thought I would see them try gun control here. It a losing issue in Kentucky anyway, but even more so in Laurel County. If you don't have a picture holding a gun while wearing camo, your probably not going to get elected.

Heck, here in the Jackson Purchase, if you don't have a gun...we'll GIVE you one. Go 'Cats!
