Has anyone used an SST in an SKS for hunting deer or pigs?

Results?

Most of my playing with the 7.62x39 predates the SST's. Given that the lightest SST in 0.308" are 150gr, I doubt that many have bothered to try. IMO, a 150gr SST @ 2,000fps is at the lower range of where they will expand and past ~100yds would be doubtful if it would offer any improvement over the standard 123-125gr bullets available for the 7.62x39.

I shot a lot of Nosler 125gr Ballistic Tips through the SKS's I had and they shot well. Never used one on deer however. I did use the Hornady 123gr .310" Soft Points. It performed well, though it did shed the jacket. It was adequate for the ~100lb doe I shot, though would have been marginal for a 300lb pig.

For any use I'd ever have for a SKS, a Marlin Mod.336 in .30/30 is far superior. I sold my last SKS over 10yrs ago and will likely not ever own another.

Dropped a whitetail 4 or 5 years ago with the brown bear hollow points. 1 round through the chest quite literally liquefied the heart/liver/lungs. It got in there, and just exploded. However, had it had the shoulder plate it pry would have been a much different outcome. Plain jane soft points work well too, and aren't quite as explosive
