Must be my second childhood....

I don't really consider it a weapon, but I just bought a tru-mark slingshot. When I was a kid they were called wrist rockets, guess tru-mark lost the rights to the name. Anyway, I was wondering how long it would take to get the hang of shooting it again since it had be 30+ yrs since I last handled one. I was suprised that it came back pretty fast.
I'm using lead round ball and just ordered a single cavity 44cal mould to make more. It's a blast and something I can mess around with in the back yard without making the neighbors nervous.
Anyone else enjoy the simple pleasures of wrist rockets?

Yep.
Only problem is , I can't find any red rubber to restore my first one back to original condition...could be because the red rubber inner tubes haven't been used in awhile - huh?. Gee my wooden fork is only forty-something years old. :p I put this one up for keepsake.

I made a newer one from a fork of tree and use surgical tubing, marbles for ammo most often, still like using rocks.

Yeah there is a 'high tech' metal frame slingshot around here somewheres...buy you know me...I like the wood stock better. :D

Yep I can still shoot that sucker , I can still hit flying targets...just not as consistent as once could. Shotguns must have spoiled me.

Set up a thrower and try to hit a slow outgoing clay. Shoot steel plates , and keep backing up to see how far you can get. Don't have any Persimmon trees close...over ripe or rotten made good ammo. Had a bunch of soft rubber balls tad bigger than marbles, worked for scaring critters
away from trash cans.

Weapon - oh yeah, as a kid many a ball bearing used to fell a squirrel , rabbit or bird. Rabid dog will turn tail and run, stopped an immediate threat when sibs out playing on swings. Sibs scampered up and hanging on to top bar for dear life - in fear, "whack" and everything all better.

I didn't grow up - just got bigger myself. :)

Dad used to bring me round pebbles from the railroad tracks that ran through the State Docks.

He'll be gone soon, but he'll always be with me. :(

A wrist-rocket features prominently in my line-up of "don't try this at home" stupidity. Let's just say that wrist-rockets and M-80s can be fun when you are young and stupid (LOTS of emphasis on the stupid part). :uhoh:

Fortunately, everyone involved still has binocular vision, decent hearing and all their digits. :D

There's a way to seriously +P upgrade a wrist rocket.

Take out the leather pouch and replace it with a piece of heavy stainless braided wire. Use same to shoot a crossbow bolt with a broadhead arrow...the kind that can "hook" over the wire at the head.

I tried the Ben Pearson target arrow as a kid...well one I brought home from school and tried to fix because it was broken...Humm I might have to "investigate this".

TR...Cherry bombs and M-80s...works best if someone else lights that sucker while you have the the slingshot in the "cocked" position...not that I would have any knowledge or experience in these matters...not me I was a good boy...<insert bolt of lightning here>.:uhoh:

Well, I'm happy to see I wasn't the only one with a mis-spent youth. I have my own memories of firecrackers and slingshots, and still have all my parts too!!
Never thought about trying the crossbow bolt.
Got an email today that my 44cal RB mould is on the way. That will mean an unending supply of wrist rocket ammo!!!!!
If I had know getting old could be fun, I would have done it years ago (well, not really).

Jelly beans and similar candies make excellent frangible rounds for indoor use. They will, however, still smash most windows.
