I have a remington 788 in 6mm Remington and am having a difficult time finding a one piece scope mount for it. I have found mounts but they have all been too long or too short. Does anyone know how many different lengths the 788 receivers were made in and either what calibers were with what receiver or how the receivers were designated?

There is only a long and short action. 1/4" difference between them. Besure what you see is not a remington 78 or 798. There are more than a few one peice bases out there that make them . Mine is a old weaver . Your 6mm you be a long action . Check EWG bases

Here's an example at Midwayusa. It seems that nomenclature for the short rounds are listed as long action, and the longer cartridges, like the 6mm Rem are listed as the extra long action.
That is somewhat helpful. However, I have a Williams Quick Convertible base marked Rem 788 that is actually too long for my extra long action and my 44 mag has an extra short action. Anybody know what is chambered in the medium action, or whatever they call the action between the extra long action and the 44 mag action?

Here's a link to some 788 information at Graybeard outdoors, but I can't vouch for the accuracy.
