Ok, so I have never really looked into buying older firearms. I happened to be browsing Cheaper than Dirt and saw that they are offering a Mosin Nagant for 79$ (there were 2 versions one for 80) I have always wanted a rifle that shot the 7.62x 54r round. Is this a good buy? Are there any catches?

No catches really. the Mosin is a fun rifle, can be very accurate, and there are so many of them. At the price, buy two, just cuz you can.

I've had a 91/30 and still have a M-44. they are fun rifles to shoot, and a great way to get into full power cartridges and bolt action rifles without breaking the bank. they make adequate deer rifles, too.

I guess the catch is that it will be slathered in cosmoline and will take a few hours and a lot of mess to get it clean and shootable, and most/ all Milsuro ammo is corrosive so it has to be cleaned soon after you're done shooting for the day.

Check the shipping. Their prices are pretty decent but their shipping prices are the worst I've seen. If shipping is decent, I'd say go for it. They are fun rifles with basically limitless ammo available for cheap.

Also check your local shops by the time you pay shipping and transfer it will be pretty close in price. You also get to pick the one you like.

I think it just depends how far you are from their warehouse. I have found their prices to be much more reasonable than some of their competitors.
