its ok. the only thing i compensate for is bullet drop.... HA HA

Why do you have such a tall scope mount on it? Seems to me it would be a lot more comfortable to shoot if you got that scope down as low as possible, and then you wouldn't need such a tall cheek rest. The way you have it, that rifle looks like it would be very uncomfortable to shoot, since you would have to stretch your neck way up to get on the cheek rest. It would probably be impossible to shoot from prone.

You probably use the base because it has a cant to it for longer-range shooting, since you mentioned compensating for drop, but surely someone makes one that is shorter!

Gotta agree about the scope, it Looks like someone only had short rings on hand and said "What the Heck, I'll just put a piece of railway underneath it to raise it up rather than spend the bucks to get proper rings."

That variable gantry mount is a great idea! What kind of range are you getting your rifle out to? I'm waiting on a set of rings from SWFA to complete my .22lr rig, and I'm curious as to how far you have stretched that rimfire!

And personally, I'd keep the wood as is. Seems to have a nice pattern and will stand out amongst the sea of synthetic stocks IMO.
