Yesterday I took my 7 yr. old daughter to the range for the first time. Her mom and I are like a lot of parents and have been divorced for almost 4 years. I decided that this past Christmas was the year to start. So, without discussing it with her mom, she got her first .22 Christmas day. She had never shot anything before yesterday and I wasn't sure she would even take to it. She is a "girlie girl" to the fullest extent. Nervous before we left the house, she was starting to show signs of not wanting to go. After a little discussion, we headed to the range. Of course there has been days upon days of safety talks before she even saw the first round. We set up the targets, hers about 20 yrds or so. After I took a few shots with the my .22 my parents gave me almost 30 years ago, she was ready to fire her pink Cricket. The look on her face after she pulled the trigger the first time was priceless. No flinch at all, turned around, smile as big as the cheshire cat, saying "gimme another one"! I loved every minute of it!! :D

I remember my kids first just like it was yesterday and that has been 12 years ago. They started with a pair of Crickets also. Now they are 18 and 16. Both have earned their Eagle Scout Ranking and were awarded Henry Eagle Scout 22's by their grandfather who has now passed away. Time seems to get away from you. They have now graduated to bigger calibers and shotguns. Now it seems that the best father son times we have is either at the range or the loading bench. The times we spend together while shooting is truly priceless. Firearm saftey and shooting is a responsibility that needs to be passed down from generation to generation.

Looks great, sounds like fun. I took my seven year old son several months and he keeps asking to go back, but always wants to shoot my guns instead of his. I still haven't taken his twin sister yet.

I really like to read about these first range trips! I took two of my grandchildren last week. In a few years I'll get the other two going too. You did good and proud of mom too! Lots of moms just don't go for the shooting skills. In Tennessee the kids can take the hunter safety classes at ten years old. Its good to have some real range time with dad before class time.

Good move on your part!

Mark
