I'm in NY and building an AR and am looking for 1 or 2 pre-94, 20 or 30 round mags. (For those who don't know, a mirror of the old federal ABW is still in effect here and all >10 round mags must be pre 1994) Theres a gun show in about a month near me, about how much would they cost there? Does anyplace sell pre-94 AR mags online? Thanks.

My google-fu pulled this up... I have no experience with this place, so take it FWIW:

I do not mean to be flippant - but how do you (or New York) tell if a magazine was made before 1994? Some models did not exist (Pmag) but many USGI-style mags have too few marks on them to date them. I bought some in the mid-to-late 90's that were "pre-ban" but I had to take the seller's word for it.

No clue about cost; I moved out of Ca so I do not have to worry about it any more.

Thats the thing, the burden of proof is on the prosecutor.
You can take regular 'unmarked' magazines wherever you want, and no one could eyeball it and tell you otherwise.

Kind of like 922r.

Its all on the honor system.

To be fair, the ONE 30'rdr AR mag I have says right on it Sep 2004. Oh well. I have plenty of plastic 10rdrs that work just fine in New York.

Try Sky Surplus in Spokane WA. He has a lot of old surplus stuff. Preban doesn't mean anything here except old and outdated, but to you they are worth something. Should be able to get them cheaper this way. Ask him if he has any from the 80's or 90's.

I've ordered from ammoman lots over the years. Never had a problem.

Thanks for the ammoman link, $26 per mag is a bit pricey though. Is that standard for a pre 94 mag? Anyone know how much they go for at a NY gun show? I know they probably vary in price around the country as most places are free states with no magazine restrictions,

A pre-ban in NY is like water in heck.
Expect to pay top dollar due to demand.

You are also likely to have trouble getting a vendor to send the mags into NYS. I would go to PA or better yet find a friend or relative who is in a state that doesn't care and have them buy in bulk.
Old mags go for as little as $5 if you buy in some quantity. I would also make certain that using the mag won't make your gun illegal by having to many "bad" parts. Do you have a preban lower?

Aluminium mags made after 1994 were date-marked. So, no date markings, you can probably presume that they are pre-1994.
