Has anyone here ever used reclaimed shot in their shotshells?

How did it work?

I use it and it works just fine. I use ALR (Accurate Lead Recovery) for clay targets and bird hunting. I don't shoot competitively but for what I do, it works great. It is a mix of 7&1/2, 8 and 9 shot. At $20.00 per 25# bag I thought it was a good deal. :)

Same here...used to get it for 12/bag. Ugh, should have bought the whole pallet of it.

Mine came primarily from a trap club, so it was mostly 7.5s, but it worked fine for informal practice.

There's reclaimed shot, then there's reclaimed shot. By that I mean that you have to be careful who you get it from. If it's processed, cleaned, tumbled and regraphited, then it's good to use for informal practice in 12 and 20 gauge, but not in smaller gauges, since it tends to clog in the drop tube.

The other reclaimed shot is the stuff that's sifted from the field, but not cleaned. It will be full of dirt, sand and debris, and is hard on your barrel. I use this stuff for casting bullets, where I can skim off the impurities, as it's a good source of antimony.

Just be aware that shot gets deformed when fired the first time, so the reclaimed shot will have lots of dimples and flat spots on the pellets. You'll get a few flyers, but most will fly true. With today's prices, reclaimed shot is a good option for a lot of informal shooting, since it can usually be had for about half the price of new shot.

Hope this helps.

I talked to the nearest trap club and they told me that they do process and clean their reclaimed shot and even graphite it.

I'll be going by there tomorrow.

Ive used it for skeet only. Patterns well with the deformed pellets. Not so good for long range SC IMO.
