So, we have lever guns that shoot pistol cartridges, and I personally own a '94 Large Loop in 44Mag.....my question is, do you figure the Marlins or Winchesters are going to come out with a 480 Ruger, or 475 Linebaugh, 50 AE, or something along these lines? I'd love to see one in 480 Ruger; I think it would be the cat's meow for in-close bear defense or moose-slaying.....just my .02.

I'd just be tickled to see Winchester or Marlin bring their lever guns out in .454 Cassul, so that we could also use our .45 Colt loads through them!

Puma makes a lever action in .454 Casull but, oddly enough, pressures in the big bores are generally too high for Marlins and Winchesters.

Isn`t Rossi making a lever gun in 454? There`s one at a local gunshop. I think it`s a Rossi, but I`m not sure. It looks really nice. There must be a limit on how strong you can build a lever gun, 454 can be loaded pretty stout!

Puma (Legacy Sports) has a lever gun in 454 Casull.

I doubt if the big companies see a sizable enough market for guns that shoot 'more powerful' cartridges than the 45-70 or the 450 Marlin. I think one of the biggest reason that the big companies haven't come out is that most of them wouldn't hold up to constant high pressure loadings in the 475 or 500 Linebaugh cartridges. Even the 480 is probably too high pressure for the current platforms for extended reliability.

Plus, the 45-70 has been killing all kinds of game all over the world for a very long time. What purpose would a shorter case with faster burning powders really serve in a rifle? A few more rounds of capacity but that's probably about it. The hot 45-70s from Buffalo Bore or Garrett in a Marlin should kill just about anything that needs to be killed with a lever action rifle.
