I recently bought a can of 7.62X51 NATO surplus ammo. It is packaged belted for MG-3 machine gun. I wonder if anyone has an easy way to strip the rounds from the belt?

I believe you're overlooking the best, and most obvious method: you need to remove them from the belt with a MG-3. ;)

Use the can and a 18" length of 2x4

Put the belt over the edge of the can(in between 2 cases), smack the outermost case mouth and it should pop out. Lather, rinse, repeat!

You can position one cartridge on the edge of the board with the rest of the belt hanging off the edge, and simply push down on the link around that cartridge, forcing the round to be stripped upward out of the linked belt. Repeat as necessary. You might need to wear a leather glove, depending on how many you have to do.

Or do as thorn suggested. That works too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up using a board and gloved hands to strip the rounds. It worked out OK and now all I have to do is shoot it and see if it goes bang! :)

I've got a bunch of that too. I shoot as many at a time as I can get off using the board method, until my hand hurts, then I'm done for the day.

A fired case placed case mouth down over the bullet on the round being "delinked" saves your hand.
