Almost purchased a S&W 29....almost

Found a S&W 29 with a 6" barrel at the local gunshop for $339.
Bluing was worn off at the muzzle end from holster wear and a little of it worn on the cylinder. Overall though the action, barrel and forcing cone were in good shape.
Did I goof and let this go? Hows the price line up as far as used in that condition?

Greeting's Lennyjoe-
If you could live with the cosmetic effects of the S&W
model 29, I would say that $339 is an "attractive price".
Heck, a little holster wear won't hurt a thing; it just goes
to show that the previous owner used it. :D

Well, $339 for a 29 is a good price, especially if it is mechanically sound and just a little finish wear. It would be an outstanding deal if you could get the price down to $300, but that may just be wishful thinking!

Lenny,
Saw that one at Murphy's. I think it's a fair price for a M29. Friend of mine bought a 29-3 a couple months ago from Bryan for about the same ammount.
Just think - it's pre-agreement, no safety lock, and in blued steel. Oh, and it's an N-Frame. What more could you ask (smiley face goes here).

It sounds good. Most 29s don't get shot much as they are more of a status symbol. The ones that do get shot a lot should show the effects but most stay in great shape. You can buy a brand new 629 or whatever the latest steel 29 is called but be prepared to pay $600 and it comes with the lock. A 29 is a helluva good gun for $339. Try to get a Python for that! And its only a 357. :uhoh:

Great price. Hope I'm lucky enough to find one like it when I get my first .44...:uhoh:

Did I overlook where you mentioned the dash-number? If it's a 29-2 (= pinned bbl and counterbored charge holes), then I think it's a screamin' deal. 'Bout the onliest one I'd be leery of would be a -3, but at the price and condition you describe, it's still an okay deal.

A 29-2 or earlier would be 6½". The 29-3 and higher should be 6".
$339 for a -2 in the condition you described is a DEAL. I'd even gladly pay that much for a -3.

Run back and buy it quick! If you end up not liking it, you could sell it and get what you paid.
