Every month we get a paper called the Sierra Scoop.

It is a "Penny Saver" type publication. It is full of ads from folks trying to sell things. There are always a few gun ads in it. But this month has an ad for the ultimate pistol.

Here is ad word for word.

Colt Governemnt Issue 1911 45 Atomic Colt Pistol, made for U.S. Army in 1912, Nevada residents only, $2,250...

An atomic pistol?

Are the bullets made of uranium, or is uranium used to propel the bullets?

Can this gun only be shot in and around Area 51?

Would the user have to wear some kind of protective gear to fire it?

Maybe it was made for self defense against out of this world foes. After all, the ad says you must be a Nevada resident.

Has anyone here ever fired an atomic pistol?

Maybe it was recovered from one of the atomic bomb testing sites in NV.

If it was, you won't need night sights on it. Heck, the whole gun would be a night sight!:D

A production date of 1912, if correct, was well before the Atomic Age. I think this is a bit of "embellishment" by the seller. :scrutiny: $2250 is probably OK for a gun of this vintage in good original condition, but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

I think its just a misspelling of "Automatic"

Yes, I realize it is probably a misprint.

But when you put "atomic" and "Nevada" together, ones imagination takes over.;)

Sometimes, when someone transcribes ad text over the phone, it loses something in the translation. I have seen a number of ads for "Loophole" scopes, "Mouser" rifles, "wenches" (for "winches"), and so on. :D But it would seem pretty hard to mistake "atomic" for "automatic." :scrutiny:

It feeds and uses bullets made of depleted uranium.
