Hi all, early december I started reloading finally :) however when I opened my new LNL a few pieces had something on them, I want to call it rust but its really thin, you can only feel it by scratching your nail over it. its on the pistol rotor and some of the linkage pieces, I haven't put anything on them other than hornady one shot, is it time to do something? Also its not affecting the accuracy of the powder measure, with W231 I'm getting +/- .5 grains, better than I was expecting

Sounds like corrosion from your skin where you touched it. I clean my dies and such with Gun Scrubber then apply Barricade or some other gun oil after use.

Hornady equipment that is made ofsteel is not plated, so you have to wipe it down a bit or it will rust. Remington dry lube followed by a wipedown seems to work for me .

with W231 I'm getting +/- .5 grains, better than I was expecting That's terrible!!
1/2 grain variation with W231, or any other powder is just not acceptable.
I have no idea what that problem is, but you need to figure it out & fix it.
As for the rust?
I would suggest you clean all the metal parts and apply a couple coats of Johnson's Paste Floor Wax to everything to combat the rust.
You don't want to use oil based products on any powder handling equipment.

Good point about the oil rc, I failed to mention I clean the oil off before using it again.

Oh your right RC, my bad I meant +/- 1/20 grain, had a dumb moment there. so did hornady leave oil on the powder assembly before packing? I ask because it came that way and it hasn't seemed to have gotten worse...it's only been a month though il deffinantly try those out

Hornady normally ships these with a coating of some kind of anti-corrosion goo. You have to clean all the metal parts thoroughly before you use them.
I sometimes get the same light surface rust, but only on the parts I touch. A very light scrub (take it apart first) with 0000 steel wool and Balistol or similar product will fix it. Make sure all the parts are completely dry before you reassemble.

Yes, I imagine most steel reloading parts are coated with some sort of rust preventative oil for storage and shipping.
It is customary to clean it all off, especially on powder handling equipment before using it.
Again, use wax or dry-lube spray to lubricate and prevent rust during use.

I copper plated the rotor on my dispenser. It works as a lube and prevents corrosion. Hard Paste Wax is a very good option to prevent surface rust. Running graphite through it coating the press with it will also work. But if you live in a high humidity area you may need to keep a light coat of wax or oil to stop corrosion. Or move it inside out of the elements where the environments are controlled.
When my unit came it it was packed in heavy oil and required some serious cleaning prior to use.
