Astra 100

I saw an Astra 100 at the gun show saturday for $225. It was in .45 and if it had seen any use, it was very little. It has a blued finish, and the double action trigger felt kinda heavy, while the single action wasn't half bad. I'm really tempted to pick it up tomorrow, but haven't been able to find too much info. I'm aware that some Spanish pistols seem to have issues with their steel being a little soft, and I was wondering if the Astra might have the same problem. I notice CDNN carried the magazines, so that's covered. Another issue that concerns me is maintenance or repair, as I seem to recall that Astra is no longer in business. Any info or opinions will be welcome as I'm planning on going to the show again tomorrow.

I think if you could talk him down just a tad more it'd be a deal. Astra'a are like most other spanish pistols, they work or they dont. I have had a couple that were flawless functioners and some I just could not make work at all. I think Stars have the edge over other spanish brands, but I had a starlet once that refused to work also. Anyhow, they are allway's interesting pieces; not sure I'd bet my bacon on one though...if I did it would be a Star Model B-series.:)

Thanks for the reply. I actually decided against going back. Not a good idea to spend money you don't have.

i am a fan of the Astra A-100: I have them in 9MM, .40, and .45, in several different finishes. I can't tell you about their longevity, but they are a good imitation of the Sig 228. The grip is smaller than the Sig's even though the Astra mag holds 17 rounds, two more than the Sig. And the mags are high quality Mec Gars. Like the Sig, the Astra take-down is ridiculously easy. My Astras are fun to shoot and accurate. I prefer the nickel finish over the polished blue. There are so many A-100s out there, I would stay away from those that have been beaten up by Spanish police and soildiers.
