Obsolete Trio

This another thread asking what three hunting rifle calibers you would have if you were only limited to three?

I know, you all are saying this topic has been done to death.

But I want to introduce a twist to this thread.

The three calibers have to be obsolete, or near obsolete. Not old per say, but not very common anymore. More than likely you'll have to reload for it. You might even have to form your own cases.

The 30-06 is over one hundred years old. Yet, it is far from dead. You could probably find ammo for in this caliber is the smallest towns across the country. So, this caliber wouldn't qualify here.

On the other hand, the 8mm Remington Magnum is a relatively new cartridge. It ain't doing too well. Try find a box of this ammo at Cabela's or Scheels, much less at some ma and pa hardware store in Northern Nevada. This cartridge could be part of this battery.

Here would be my three obsolete calibers of choice.

1. The 22 Hornet. Not quite obsolete, but not exactly an everyday round. This caliber would be my small game and varmint round.

2. A 30 caliber cartridge of some sort nedds to be included somewhere in a limited gun battery. The 308 and 30-06 are not obsolete. So my second caliber would be the 300 Savage. Most hunting situation in the lower 48 are within the capabilities of this find cartridge.

3. A round for bigger species would also be needed. For this I would have a rifle chamberd in 358 Winchester. An almost gone but not totally forgotten round. It can handle bigger game, maybe not at long range, but at any range I am comfortable to shoot at.

Your turn. What three obsolete, or almost obsolete calibers would you include in a thre rifle battery?

.260 remington bolt action, 3-9X40 scope will do it all.

If you hunt mastadons or dinosaurs, get a .35 Whelan in Rem 7600 and a good chiropractor.

.224 Weatherby, 7mm Mauser, ,358 Norma Mag.
I've found these three would do it all gracefully !
I can shoot varmints at any range and any load level with the good .224 Weatherby and using 60 grain Nosler Partitions or Barnes 53 grain Triple Shoks at 3500 add smaller deer and antelope to the list!
The 7mm Mauser offers excellent hunting bullet selection at plenty of velocity (2600-2900 fps) with mellow recoil in a sporter.
The Thundering .358 Norma really comes alive with a slippery 250 grain spitzer and shoots flatter than a .375 H&H with similar energy levels.Elk to the biggest bears it is in it's proven glory and with the proper bullets works just as well in Africa too.

50-95 Winchester Express (Win 1876 Lever Gun)

For a scatter gun a Lefever double in 10 or 8 gauge.
