Which ammo is closest to military ball ammo; winchester white box 5.56 or Federal American Eagle 5.56?

Some AE is made on the same assembly line, but I don't like having to ream primer pockets to reload, so I usually shoot WWB, Privi, or PMC.

The US military ball ammo (manufactured by ATK under military control) was the M855 round which is a 62grain bullet with a steel core. This round is currently being replaced by the new M855-A1 round which is also 62 grains, but has an exposed steel penetrator. At my local Wal-Mart they have 420round cans of Federal (Owned by ATK) XM855 ammo for sale at $149.99 per can. As for the new round I have not seen any civilian ammo that has this kind of bullet with the exposed penetrator.

You should also note that just because the military uses it doesn't mean that it is the best option. The XM-855 round is a 3 MOA round and is not the best at transferring all of its energy on a target. Hollow-Point ammunition is much better at doing this, but the military is not allowed to use hollow-point ammo because it is deemed as cruel by the geneva conventions.

Here is a pic of the military ammo

It is actually made by Federal's parent company ATK, which owns brands such as Federal Premium, CCI, Speer, RCBS, Alliant Powder, Champion, Weaver, Eagle Industries, and Blackhawk! Industries. Click Here (http://www.atk.com/capabilities_defense/cs_as_fm_lcaap.asp#) for a link to their webpage on the Lake City plant. The rest of their website has a lot of interesting information on their products.
