M4 stock for 870 out there?

I was at a gun show this weekend and saw the FN Tactical Police Shotgun, which was basically a Wincester 1300 with an M4 telescoping stock, A3 sights and a Weaver rail. I think it was ported too.

Check out www.FNHUSA.com

It was a good concept, but I'd change a few things in making it a defense/duty shotgun.

First off, I'd start with an 870P, a platform I am much more familiar with in terms of breaking down and use in hunting with my 870 Wingmaster.

I like the M4 telescoping stock much better than those-fold-over-the-top and side folders. All I have seen have seemed cheap or the ergonomics were not right with too much drop in the stock.

My "ultimate 870" would start with an 870P with a mag tube extension, the M4 type telescoping stock, Surefire forward grip for "blinding light" and similar sights as the FN, but lowered a bit. A good sling would be important and maybe a side saddle shell holder.

Choke tubes or an adjustable choke would be nice depending on range and usage (wide open for buildings, with a tighter choke for more open areas.)

I am a FIRM believer in slugs to give a shotgun better reach out to 100 yards. I liked the FN's sights because they had two aperatures, a larger ghost ring and a tighter peep for dialing in slugs. There were large dials on the sights for elevations and windage.

With practice, one could mark the elevation dial on the sight to be sighted at 100+ yards with a particular brand of slugs. This would allow the shotgunner to extend his reach. I'd carry mix of premium buckshot and slugs on a bandoleer.

Does anyone make the telescoping rear stock for the 870 yet? I want to start on my shotgun project.

Byron now has the adapter and a host 870, but hasn't got the M4 stock yet. I'm sure he'll follow up, once he's had a chance to set it up, and work it out.

The M4 stock is cool because it's adjustable for portability, but some of us little guys like it because typical stocks are too long.

The only complaint I've heard so far, is that if you do a malf-clearing drill where you slam your butt down on the ground, you may break the M4 stock.

Also, since there is no drop to the comb you'll shoot high unless you also purchase either a receiver length or full length rail and add either optics or BUIS. Reckon I'll spend my "extra" cash on ammo.

I'm working on an 870/AR stock project using an adapter from Ace Ltd, www.riflestocks.com

What I've got right now is the 870 receiver adapter & pistol grip:

With their CAR stock "pigtail" attached to the rear of the receiver adapter:

This is what it looks like with a stock:

I'm waiting on an Vltor carbine Modstock, so I had to use my A2 fixed to check the stockweld with my bead sight, and it looks like it will work. There is adjustability, up and down, of the pigtail on the receiver adapter.

This Ace receiver adapter & grip is a VERY solid item, well manufactured and heavy-duty.

I'll post more as the parts come in and I get it to the range.

Local shop has one of the FNs. I was bothered by two things - my "muscle memory" made my thumb constantly search for the safety and the M4 stock looked a bit small for shooting comfort.

I'd be concerned that I'd fumble for the safety if I needed to use the SG quickly.

Thanks for the links, Chris.

I'm looking at the 870P with the factory ghost ring sights. That stock in the pic you posted and a mag tube extension will get me on the way to a great project.

I knew you folks would be able to help.

Thanks

If someone has one of these set up, could they be so kind as to shoot some fast COFs with it and then do the same COFS with the standard stock back on?

Times and scores can help determine if these are of worth or just Cool Stuff.

Just got the Vltor stock in today, but I'm still missing the castle nut which I've got on the way.

I have a proper sight picture for the bead and good stockweld. The adapter is at its lowest point of adjustment, so there's plenty of upward adjustment available should I decide to mount optics.

Will post more when I shoot it.

I love my FNH TPS!

I just want to put a light on it now.
