Mandolin case for my AK

On the lookout for a low-profile case to carry in the car, I picked up this brand-new mandolin case at Goodwill for $15. Figured that I could hoof it from some inconvenient FUBAR on the freeway or downtown and make my way home without drawing too much attention. It carries my Yugo underfolder and 4 magazines, which are downloaded to 25 for long-term storage in the trunk. Heavy, but it carries easily enough, and I've seen plenty of musicians cradle these in their arm while transporting. I'm sure others have done similar things that don't look like the run of the mill "low profile" rifle cases.;)

Wow! lol. I've considered something like this before but quickly discarded the idea after I took my meds! lol, jk. That's pretty sweet. Reminds me of the scene in Godfather, lol. Also makes me wonder about all the musicians I used to see on campus...I -knew- there was just no way there were that many mandolin players at my school.

That looks legit. People might down you on theory or practical, but I like it.

Have you considered putting the mags in a simple mag carrier? Like one of those chinese rigs or just a strap with mag pockets sewn onto it.

Very cool looking, I must add.

Well, the whole idea of the case would be to stay low profile if one had to walk away from an incident yet stay low-profile and armed. The case could be opened and a magazine installed in a matter of a few seconds. Walking with a chest rig kinda draws attention. A chest rig won't fit in the case, and a bigger case was not on my personal agenda.

Are there any legal concerns in your area to walking through town with a concealed rifle?

That's a nice fitting case! Mine lives in a Romanian violin case that is very thin and round. All it needs is a 'peace' sign and a couple Bob Marley stickers and the illusion will be complete.

There isn't room for mags below my receiver but there might be if I had an underfolder. A stock 8/10 round magazine fits in the string/rosin compartment under the muzzle. This is a Saiga .308:

I bought a slightly longer but mostly thicker, heavier duty case that I think is intended for a viola. It is my intent to build proper cradles for the rifle, scope on side rail mount, and a couple magazines in that larger case.
