peep sight for ruger mini-14 pre-2005?

I have a question for a friend of mine (he's too shy to do this), well, whatever.
He has a pre-2005 ruger ranch rifle and wants to put a peep site on it that can flip up so when he doesn't use his scope, he has good open sight capability.
I suggested a higher scope mount but I don't know his rifle as I have only handled it once without the scope/peep sight thing in mind.
My question is if there is such a thing as a "pop up" peep sight for the ruger rifle (or any such thing at all)?
The sights that come with his rifle are pretty cheap looking as I even remember that. I think he wants something higher quality.
Any info or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Tech-Sights are awesome and they make sights for the Mini-14, but they aren't flip-up.
Maybe his scope can fit over them.. they aren't big.

I have an older ranch rifle and I can't see how he is going to use BOTH a flip up sight AND a scope mount. Unless he's got an Amega systems forward rail mount or something.

Here's mine. You use the flip up sight unless you remove the scope entirely. Unless I'm misunderstanding your question.

The pic looks like it does indeed pop down to allow the scope. What year is your mini and what brand is the peep sight? Also, what scope mount are you using? Nice looking set-up.

Thanks so much for the reply and photo.

The peep sight is the OEM ruger flip up peep, which sucks. (flimsy, barely moves up far enough to zero at 50 yards, and if you tighten the screws it bends the aperature plate).

The mounts are the Ruger rings that come with the rifle. I don't know what year it was built but I bought it in 1995 or so. The scope is a crappy Tasco and if you want it I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping.

YOu may also consider this I just googled up from XS sight systems...

With some filing to the Ranch rifle dovetail, a M1 Carbine rear sight is supposed to fit as well.

Great info 1k, I'll pass this along.
Thanks for the Tasco offer...but I'll pass.
Cheers

If the Tasco scope offer is open to others, I'd be happy to have it. LMK

Thanks!

I put a Williams "Guide" receiver sight on my 189-series Mini 30. Took about 5 minutes to make the swap and uses the existing front sight. Cost me around $35, IIRC, and made a big difference.

There weren't nearly as many other options then as there are now, but I've been happy enough with it that spending money just to get something newer and 'cooler looking' seems wasteful. It works just dandy, and it's paid for so why fix what ain't broken?
