4 mm Zimmerschutzen sounds like it might translate into Parlor gun in English. 4 mm works out to .1576, not far off from our bb gun.
I`v seen parlor pistols, they use the perucssion cap to propel a bb size ball. Havent seen a rifle, and I didn`t see a percussion nipple & hammer in your picture. Is it an air gun, perhaps ?
Whatever it is, it`s a real beauty, and looks extrmely well made.

Zimmershutzen is literally "parlor-shooting" but often done in a barn or sheltered outdoor area. Many Zimmershutzen rifles are "conversions" of larger bore centerfire rifles but some are purpose-built for the 4mm rimfire cartridge. Often the barrel/chamber is a cut out half-way down the original barrel with a firing rod actuated by the original hammer. The cartridge is very similar to our BB-cap except .17 caliber. I have seen 4mm cartridges with a pointed and round bullet. RWS still makes them (I think) but we don't see them much in the USA. This sport was quite popular among German-decent farmers in Western Ontario when I was a kid fifty+ years ago.

It is properly called Zimmerstutzen. 4mm rifles were quite popular in Germany until they fell victim to legislation.
