I picked up a 19" unthreaded barrel Saiga 12-gauge last week, and I love it already. Lots of fun to shoot. Getting 8 round mags will be problematic for you, as they are illegal under the AWB by some interpretations. Good luck finding someone to sell them to you if you aren't a LEO. Next step for me: finding a nice Russian-produced red dot sight for my Saiga. A second-generation Kobra would be great...

If the price is right (check with CDNN) and you really want a reliable semi-auto shotgun with a detachable magazine, pick up the Saiga.

Thanks....I kinda figured that the 8 rounders were iffy but ONE can wish!:D

azrael, use the search function. Look under my name. I have had one for awhile and have posted about it a few times.

What's the detachable magazine capacity on shotguns? 5?

I assume 8 rounds tube fed is just fine....

Detachable mag capacity doesn't matter. If I recall the law correctly its "ability to accept a detachable magazine" or "internal magazine larger than 5 rounds". The unwillingness to sell is just people being careful.

Saigas are ok. My brother owns a 19" open choked model. Recoil is nice. Trigger is alright but not incredible. The sights stink though. The radius is way too short. You may want to get the aftermarket unit that goes on the end of the barrel or put an aimpoint on there.

Can anyone recommend a nice sighting system for a Saiga-12? Anyone have experience with Kobra sights? What about flashlights?

IME, the Kobra sights are a PITA to zero. The adjustment system is bizarre. They're hard to find right now anyway, as the manufacturer is seriously back-ordered with the Russian military.

When I wanted a red dot sight for my AK, I got a PK-01V from freedomoptics.com. Very nice unit that weather permitting, I will use in earnest this Saturday. The PK-01V has what we would consider a normal method of adjusting.

A good sighting system? The bead. :)

It is a shotgun for goodness sakes!
