I finally picked up my Detonics Combat Master mk 5 from the gun shop and now I'd like to find some nicer grips for it. I've been searching and I've found a few options, first being the alumagrips, but i'd like more options.

What I would like to know is, is it possible to trim standard size 1911 grips to the correct length and drill a new bottom screw hole for each side?

Does anyone know of any custom grip makers that make grips for this pistol? I'd like to find some stag or maybe micarta grips.

I guess I'll go with the alumagrips then.

Look here:
The rosewood look awful nice to me.
Or is that what you want to replace?

I did see those and I've been considering them. The price is right but if I put the rosewood grips on the I will have to change out the black rubber Pachmayer MSH to a stainless steel one. It's looking like those rosewood grips and the alumagrips are my only options. I was really hoping for a nice dark wood or maybe stag.

Sorry for any delay, but particular threads are not always quickly discovered within the literally hundreds that are started every day.

Back when Detonics pistols were being made in Georgia, I believe they bought the stocks from the Altamont Company. While they do deal with individual buyers, most of they're business comes from major manufacturers including Smith & Wesson, Ruger and Colt.

At the present time they don't list the Detonics on their web-page, but if you inquire I suspect they could make anything you wanted, the only limit being the size of your pocketbook. Log onto the attached link.

To add: I looked at the link posted by remodel, and believe that the rosewood stocks that were shown were likely made by Altamont.

I will have to change out the black rubber Pachmayer MSHNo, you don't "have too".

I ran a rubber Pach MSH on one of my 1911's for some time because I like the stickiness when shooting.
That would be even more so on a combat Master I would think.

True I wouldn't have to but I thought that black rubber would look funny with the reddish wood grips.

www.brownells.com
stocks the Pachmahr presentation grips for Detonics, I got a pair for mine there

btw, if you use standard 1911 grips you'll have a second set of screw holes just under the new holes you just drilled- very ugly. This is due to the Detonics frame being sized for a 6 rd mag, instead of a 7rd (or even 8 & still flush fit)

I checked brownells, didn't see the Pachmayr grips for a combat master, got a link?
