Is there a place or store that one can get 1911s at a decent price in California? All I see in the shops is way over retail. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1911 style pistols range in price from around $500 to $3500 or more new. Google 1911 (I assume you the 1991 in your title was a typo unless you are looking for this particular Colt model.) You will find in the Google results several reputable dealers who will send the gun of your choice to your local gun shop. One dealer advertised free shipping. I assume 1911s are on the "list" that can be shipped to California? If so, check out the on-line prices. If nothing else, it gives you an bargaining point with your local shop.

Look at Rock Island (RIA) and American Tactical (ATI). They both make "GI" models that com in under $400. I bet you could find a seller on a site like gun broker that will ship you one. I have the ATI, and I paid $359 for it. It's not fancy but it is upgradeable and (so far) pretty reliable.

I am not sure if buying a cheap 1911 is wise if that is going to be your carry gun. 600$ Glock will out perform a 600$ or less 1911. Just a thought.

I agree, tho, if you have the money and aren't set on a 1911.
