Hey Folks. I just read a sobering article entitled, "Can You Reach Your Weapon?" (http://www.gunblast.com/Reaching.htm)

One interesting thing he showed that I hadn't seen before was magnetic mounts. You screw it into the bottom of the table and then your gun sticks there while you work at your desk.

I found this intriguing, and I could see it working quite well for the dining room table, desk, and even perhaps under the bed (since I don't have a nightstand).

The model he linked in that article is the Magna-Arm (http://www.docsgunworks.com/Magna-Arm.html), which goes for $25 and comes rubber-coated to protect the weapon's finish.

I was going to be making another fridge magnet order from United Nuclear, but I found magnets4less.com instead and my question is this: With approximately 65lb of pull, would mounting a couple of these (http://www.magnet4less.com/product_info.php?cPath=95&products_id=791) cup magnets be sufficient to hold my Walther P99? What would you folks suggest for protecting the weapon finish? Can I just get some rubber or plastic and wrap the magnets before screwing them in?

Again, I find this method intriguing and I would love to have an easier way to store my pistol when I'm at the table/my desk/sleeping. Any suggestions or feedback?

I'm not a big fan of magnitizing my guns.
Which leaving them stuck to a 65 pound magnet will do.

Any steel particals or other junk will just stick and increase wear.
