Big Nugget February 13, 2012, 12:46 AM Because I just picked up another set of dies and I have a few thousand cases I need to prep.....
I took about 2 minutes of my time to toss a spent primer catcher together. It's made from the packaging from the curtain rods. I get kinda annoyed with how fast old primers fill up the RCBS tray and I have to stop to dump it out. It's not pretty, but it works. I might refine it later on, but for now it'll do.
I've seen what a few of you all have made and this pales in comparison and yes, thats masking tape holding it on.... Just thought that some of you might get a small chuckle at my expense. :p

A quick vid of it in action, just because I had nothing better to do. :neener:

parker51 February 13, 2012, 01:33 AM Patent it! That is a great idea. How do you get the primers to all flip backwards, mine go all over the place.
Curt Blunt February 13, 2012, 01:40 PM Man, you need to get a Hornady LnL AP if yer doin handgun stuff. BTW, the spent primers exit via a tube into an empty water bottle. No fuss, no muss.
Well Now February 13, 2012, 01:53 PM Good idea, but it would have been a better story if you had said while hanging the curtains you saw a smoking hot new neighbor. Maybe next time.
armoredman February 13, 2012, 01:56 PM No, never ever say you saw the smoking hot next door neighbor, especially on a gun forum your wife might read, BAD juju!
I like it, nifty little idea. Before I got the RCBS tray for my RS, I had a whipped topping container with a cut out done by knife to hold in place. Still missed a bunch. Heck, my tray misses some, too.
Well Now February 13, 2012, 02:03 PM Duly noted and filed away for reference.

Every now and then I would have one pop out the front so I cut a piece of soda straw just long enough to by pass the slot on the front side of the shaft. I then flared the top end just enough to keep it in place from falling down once I passed it through the top of the shell holder.

I'm sure I'll end up with a progressive in the future. I just started reloading in Sept and even though I'm very confident in myself to start on one I also appreciate the simplicity of starting with a single stage. I know I'll end up loading rifle as well, so that was another reason to start with the single stage.
Sorry, no hot neighbors

blarby February 14, 2012, 12:11 PM Looks like RCBS has another reason to "improve" the primer tray by adding the "Red Press" tube !
Good show in any event !

I can't deny it. Yes, it does! Although, I doubt just how elite of a club it really is....
Martowski February 14, 2012, 11:44 PM That's awesome.
