roughing up smooth out holster leather?

Hello all. Had a question for all the leather gurus here. I purchased a galco king tuk for my S&W M&P 40c and really like it. However, the rig tends to slide down on my hip after a bit of activity. I have a good reinforced belt (aker b21) but unless pinched to the point of discomfort, it too is pulled south. So, how do I rough up the smooth side of the leather which lies against my skin? Sand paper? If so what grit and is there a good technique to achieve this? Does anyone feel that this mod will make a significant difference? Will roughing up this leather make the holster much more prone to wick up sweat? All help is greatly appreciated.

This is a new one on me, but I would suggest that you buy some Velcro material with an adhesive backing. Using only the "fuzzy" side attach a strip (or two) on the back of the holster and see if that prevents the slipping.

If the problem is that the straps (or whatever) that hold the pouch are too wide for the belt, some of the “hook” Velcro on the belt might hold the holster in place.

Never thought about sticking something to the leather. No silk boxers for me, more of a cotton boxer sort of dude. Maybe I should look into latex. :p

I did this exact thing to a smooth leather IWB holster for my CZ 75B. Because the gun is somewhat heavy (similar in size and weight to a loaded 1911) the gun tended to slip around a bit. After putting some velcro strips on the back side, it sits a lot more comfortably on my hip. (I wear my handguns at the 3:30 position.)

The most likely culperate is the belt. The belt mentioned is reinforced with a polymer strip to prevent rollover, but this usually offers only minor resitance to slouching. My 5.11 belt is built the same way and full-framed guns were uncomfortable. Changing to a well made all leather gun belt should solve the problem for a few years but they too will eventually start to sag.

Adding something to the back or roughing it up is only going to pull down your boxers with the gun unless you are wearing your boxers tighter than your belt. :eek:
