IMR 8028 XBR for 223/556?

So after finally getting a ar15 I've been doing some loads and thninking of trying this powder.

So far here is my experience:

Very accurate and meters ok in my lee pro auto disk. What I don't like is that at max charges its a bit of a pain to run in my lee classic turret. I have to place a bullet on the case mouth b4 cycling the press so powder doesn't fly out. Basically it fills to case too much.

Super good accuracy, meters PERFECTLY but makes a mess. In my auto disk it leaks all over the place.

I like the idea of the new IMR powder s temperature insensitivity and shorter grains than varget. Its also not supposed to be compressed at max charge. I'm certainly going to try it out but was curious what results the pros around hear have had!

Anyone have any good or bad results?

Not a pro, but I've used it in .223. It's been a good powder for me so far. Very consistent results over a chrony. I haven’t shot any good bullets (or through a good rifle) with it yet, but 55gr Nosler BT's from a carbine show good accuracy (as good as I can hold it anyway). I’ve shot a lot of Hornady FMJ’s, but that doesn’t tell me much…

I was using Varget for most .223 loads, but had the same problem as you with the press indexing and shaking powder all over the shellplate.

I like it. I'd have to go look for particular results, but I do remember them being good. I think I've used it with 53gn VMax so far in .223 and tried it with several bullets in the .204. It's my go-to powder for the 50gn Bergers in the latter.

been using 24.5 gr of 8208 xbr topped with cheapo 55gr bullets for 1.5-2in groups at 100yards, same load with V-max 55gr gives me sub 1in groups at 100 out of my carbine.

My favorite powder so far. I've gotten great results with all quality bullets I tried with it. From 40 to 77 grains.

Okay, except for the Barnes 70TSX. I haven't been able to find anything that bullet likes in my rifle.

IMR 8208 XBR works great in my 270 Winchester but other powders did better in my 223.

For bullets weighing 55 grains or less use H-335 powder for bullets 60 grains and higher IMR 8208 XBR is fine but be careful it is a bit HOT. I always load it 0.2 grains under what I want to use.

XBR has lots of flash suppressant in it.
I run a 14.5" barrel with a JP Rifles compensator on it so having a powder with virtually no flash helps in low light conditions.

Someone gave me some PMC ammo the other day and I just about lost my vision From all the huge fireballs, then again some people like the rings of fire.

Thanks for the input guys. Some encouraging info! I'm going to buy a pound in the next couple weeks and give it a run.
