Should I take the NC CCW class if I'm going to move to another state in 6 months?

Ok, so a few of my friends are going to take an NC CCW class to be able to get their conceal carry permits, and I'm thinking about taking the class with them, but wondering if there is any point in getting conceal carry in NC since I'm in my last semester of college and will probably be moving to a different state this summer. Are there any other states that recognize NC conceal carry permits?

Thanks for any help,

Will

Get it, your plans might change. Besides you'll have peace of mind and can get used to carrying while you finish up your time in NC. There are some sites that list recipracy (sp) with what states.

Here is one:

I would wait until you finalize your future plans. The money you spend on the class and CCW application may be better spent going to your "new" state or getting the permit in your "new" state. If you decide not to leave NC you could always take the course later. College students usually don't have a whole lot of extra cash after they graduate so decide where you want to be living say 2 years from now and let that be your guide.

If you have parents in the state just keep your primary (driver's license) residence NC for now and get the permit. Much less complicated.

I am pretty sure some states actually take a prior permit from another state into account but not 100% sure

hhhm, from the link that Ryanxia posted it looks like there are a lot of states that honor the NC permit. And my parents do live in NC so I could keep my address here. For the first three years after I graduate I'll be moving to a different location each year as part of a leadership development program, so I'm not going to be living anywhere long term until after that. Can I keep an NC address and still be considered an NC resident for that period? Also what does it mean "Honors NC Permit" does that mean that someone with an NC ccw permit can purchase handguns in those states, or just that someone with an NC ccw permit could carry while traveling through those states?

Just carry. Residency laws are pretty tricky, so do your research carefully.

"Honors NC Permit" SHOULD mean that if you have an NC permit you can carry in their state without any additional permits.

If you're out and abroad you can still call NC your home (like truck drivers for example) but if you're going to be staying in one place for a whole year that isn't NC that might not work.
